WOSSAA X-Country

This shot was expertly taken by coach Mark Dewan from St. Mikes. The Senior Boys had just received the news that their team was NOT advancing to OFSAA after missing out on 4 places/points in their run. Then the senior girls received news that they WERE moving on. Their excitement is expected, but to see the same joy from their male counterparts (in the background) is why coaching is so rewarding.

The running team competed at Fanshawe yesterday at the WOSSAA XC Championships.
Midget Boy, Ezra Bender had an amazing individual run finishing 4th in his field. This enables him to represent the Salukis at OFSAA.
Our Midget Girls ran excellent races placing 10th overall.
Junior Boys Aaron Vernooy and Ben Turner also ran well getting their PB time/km.
Senior Boy Ethan Aarts finished a strong 4th and advances as an individual. The rest of the Senior boys team, Owen Wrigley, Joe Hutton, Kirk Boreham and Sean Slater, despite having much faster runs than the previous invitational meet held at Fanshawe, just missed the mark!!! There were 4 teams that were within 4 points of one another making this 6km event one of the closest team finishes in WOSSAA history. A heartbreaker for our boys, but they ran their hearts out!
On a silver lining, literally, …… Senior Girls Hazel Taylor, Kennedy Finch, Lydia Taylor and Jelena Lorentz ran their very best races of the season capturing the silver medal allowing them to advance to OFSAA in Sudbury next week.
A big congratulations goes out to all Salukis runners as everyone ran well with many personal best times. A reminder to all runners that practices will continue next week… and to start doing the snow dance.
