Student opportunities on Town committees.

Town reminding residents of advisory board and committee opportunities

Application period open until November 2, 2018

Although the municipal election is now complete, there are still plenty of opportunities for St. Marys residents to get involved with their local government. The Town is currently recruiting applicants for 12 advisory boards and committees for the 2018 – 2022 term of Council.

Board and committee members provide Council with invaluable insight, input and expertise on matters that affect the municipality. The Town has a range of committees that advise on important local issues like heritage, planning, policing, recreation, accessibility and the environment. Members are also needed to help govern the day-to-day operations and future growth of municipal facilities and departments, like Senior Services, the St. Marys Museum, the St. Marys Public Library and the St. Marys Youth Centre.

The eligibility requirements, terms of reference and a description of each board and committee is available at www.townofstmarys.com/boardsandcommittees. There are opportunities for all ages – the Green Committee, Recreation and Leisure Advisory Committee and Accessibility Advisory Committee are all open to members under the age of 18.

The deadline to apply for a board or committee is Friday, November 2, 2018. Those who are interested in applying can download a digital form at www.townofstmarys.com/boardsandcommittees; hard copies will also be available at Town facilities. Completed forms can be submitted in person at a Town facility or by:

  • Mail: Clerk’s Department, Town of St. Marys, P.O. Box 998, 175 Queen Street East, St. Marys, ON N4X 1B6
  • Fax: 519-284-2881
  • Email: clerksoffice@town.stmarys.on.ca

Town Council will consider all eligible applicants during a closed meeting on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. The chosen board and committee members will be formally appointed by Council on December 4. All applicants will be notified of Council’s decision by mail following the December 4 meeting.

Additional information about appointed boards and committees is available at www.townofstmarys.com/boardsandcommittees. Questions about the application process can be directed to Brent Kittmer, CAO/Clerk at 519-284-2340, ext. 216 or bkittmer@town.stmarys.on.ca.
