Congratulations to the senior girls basketball team on an incredible day of basketball at Woodstock Collegiate yesterday in the WOSSAA Championship.
The team won their semi final game against the home team Red Devils by a score of 51-32.
In the final the senior girls were up against the Parkhill Marauders. In the opening quarter both teams played very well. Offensively the Lukes pressed the ball down the floor very quickly. Which constant pressure the team ended the quarter with a slip lead of 16-14.
The second quarter the Salukis continued to play well with some everyone contributing offensively. This included some excellent offensive rebounding that allowed the team to get some second shots or to go to the line. The Marauders were unrelenting though which kept the score very tight at 24-23.
In the third quarter the DCVI ladies were getting some great looks at the baskets but the basketball Gods kept the ball out. With continued pressure defensively against the Marauders the Lukes were able to stay on top, only slightly, by a score of 31-30.
It was in the fourth quarter that the St. Marys Salukis started firing on all cylinders. With two minutes on the clock and some stifling defence that saw the Marauders cough up the ball repeated DCVI pulled ahead, point by point, until the final buzzer and a score of 49-36.
Congratulations to all team members on winning WOSSAA and earning the right to represent St. Marys at the OFSAA championship in Timmins next week.
